Persian percussion instrument in ensembles

The Daf is a Persian percussion instrument traditionally used in ensembles with players working too hard for coordination on stage.

Daf is a Persian percussion instrument traditionally used in ensembles with players working too hard for coordination on stage.

The Daf is a type of frame drum that is depicted in many Persian miniatures and has reliefs from centuries ago and the players of the instrument practice hard for at least eight or nine months to achieve the level of coordination needed for performance.

The seemingly simple instrument to play has an important role in spiritual performances of traditional Iranian music accompanied by poems themed on mysticism.

The Daf has ring snares nearly all the way around the inside of the drum and is played with a lot of movement. Daff can be made in various sizes with different weights for ease of playing the instrument.
